Awesome Album Covers: Sonic Youth And “Washing Machine”
Sonic Youth - Washing Machine (Geffen 1995)
A particularly noisy affair, Sonic Youth‘s ninth album, Washing Machine, featured a photo of two Massachusetts fans wearing their commemorative Sonic Youth Washing Machine T-shirts.

Such were the legal eagles at Geffen that an APB on MTV was required in 1995 to find the owners of the T-shirts — and get the requisite releases signed to use Lance Accord’s Polaroid photo.
There was hint the band might change their name to Washing Machine, still more railing against commercialism in society but that never came to pass. Kim Gordon did play guitar on eight of the 11 tracks, leaving those songs without bass, perhaps railing against bass owners.
That is always good and you'll love me too
But you'll never know what I feel inside
That I'm really bad little trouble girl
Remember mother?
