Perfect 9@9: Robert Rhodes Plays the Unheard Hits

This week’s Perfect 9@9 guest host was dave fm listener, Robert Rhodes of Marietta! His theme was “The Unheard Hits.”
Pink Floyd‘s “Speak To Me (Breathe)” was the first time I actually sat down and listened to music as a whole and not just one instrument or song. An album that is amazing from start to finish is rare in today’s music. The start of this album is what inspired me to become a musician and ultimately changed my life. A lot of these songs that I picked are by artists that you would know but songs that might not get radio play. Rock without rules. Thanks for making music enjoyable on the radio again. – Robert
Pink Floyd Reunited for Live 8 London…On July 2, 2005, Pink Floyd reunited after 24 years to perform live at Live 8 in London. Before that, their last performance together was at Earls Court in London on June 17, 1981. Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright performed “Speak to Me/Breathe,” “Money,” “Wish You Were Here” and “Comfortably Numb.” Waters said, “It’s actually quite emotional standing up here with these three guys after all these years. Standing to be counted with the rest of you. Anyway, we’re doing this for everyone who’s not here, but particularly, of course, for Syd [Barrett].”
“Speak to Me/Breathe” is the first track on Pink Floyd‘s 1973 album, Dark Side of the Moon. Although they are two separate songs, they are usually played together, as one song goes immediately into the other on the album.
